Week 8
October 15th-19th, 2018
Hello Week 8! What a great week to follow the Reading Days. This week was very eventful. I had the opportunity to participate in many events, plus, the 5k Dash. One event, from this week, was called Inclusion Institution. The event was hosted by Pamela from the Accessibility office. This event was a interactive event, where students and faculty examine student work, answer questions about prejudice, racism, and discrimination. All displays were made by students. one of preposed questions involved; do you ever put people into "boxes?" The question interest me because, instead of saying "stereotype," we use the idea of confining people into "boxes." I had the liberty of meeting some students and discussing their ideology of this topic. Another point of interest was the "Web of Valor," which was a web of those of serve our country. When I mean, "those who serve for our country," I mean students, who are veterans or active in the Armed Forces. The web showed each individual's lives and how they feel. The color of the string is what they served as. I had the opportunity to talk to some students, who served and are still active, and what they explained was amazing. There was such an emotional impact as the students wrapped their string around the nail they experienced or related to. Overall, Pamela did an amazing job with this interactive event. It shined light on a topic that people find 'controversial.' I loved working with the students and definitely recommend people going, when it comes back.
